Community Service: Hanover Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. Hanover Habitat for Humanity has an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion.

Come explore the wonderful world of recycling. The duties of the afternoon may include loading, unloading and sorting cans, scrapping old appliances, and participating in can pick up runs. This work happens in the Habitat for Humanity warehouse (behind the office next to the Restore). We will probably be disassembling appliances to salvage the metals. The metals are then recycled which brings an additional income stream to build affordable homes. Some work MAY be on the back ‘deck’ but the warehouse can provide cover to stay out of the elements most of the time.

  • Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.
  • Tools – Some hand tools are required. If you have a small set of screwdrivers or wrenches you would like to bring, please do. Label them so we make sure to get them back to you.
  • Work Gloves – There are a few work gloves available but please bring your own if you have a pair you like.
  • Dress warm (layers are probably best) in clothing you can get dirty.
  • Personal Items – There is no place to store personal items. Please lock them hidden in your car.
